A two-person travel platform on the road most of the year. Since 2020 we have absorbed every peak, from book launches to December.
REiSREPORT is an online and offline travel platform for active travellers, with a much-visited website, a popular travel app and a webshop. Founders Marlou Jacobs and Godfried van Loo have been travelling the world since 2018 to make distinctive travel books and cycling guides.
That creates a practical problem. The company is two people, and those two people are precisely the ones who are away from home most of the year.
"Our company consists of two people. To make our books we are on the road for most of the year, so outsourcing order handling is a must in any case. Otherwise our customers would sometimes have to wait weeks for an order."
REiSREPORT was already outsourcing their shipping when they came to us. They made the switch in 2020, and what they were looking for was more than an extra pair of hands.
"There is a lot of expertise at E-fulfilment Shop, in fulfilment, logistics and IT alike, and that creates trust. After all, if something were to go wrong while we were sitting on a mountaintop in Georgia somewhere, you want to be certain that problems can be solved."
That is the requirement behind the requirement. For a seller who can be unreachable for days, it is not enough that orders go out. Someone has to be able to solve a problem themselves, without checking in first, and be reachable in a time zone that is not their own.
"Communication is always very pleasant, clear and fast. That matters a great deal to us too, because we are quite often in a different time zone."
Books do not sell at a steady rate. A launch, a book going viral, the month of December: demand can multiply from one day to the next. REiSREPORT also sells through several channels, so those peaks do not all come from the same direction.
"The flexibility is very pleasant as well, and they think along with us proactively. Our orders can fluctuate from day to day, with peaks during the launch of a new book or in December, for example. And yet they always manage to absorb all of our peaks."
Absorbing peaks is easy to promise and hard to prove. The proof is in their own webshop reviews.
Travel books and cycling guides are often bought to be given away. That changes what an order is: a flyer included, a personal message, and wrapped as a gift. With a gift the packaging is not an afterthought, it is the first thing the recipient sees.
"People think our books are (thankfully) very beautiful, but they are also consistently full of praise for the speed of shipping and delivery and, not unimportantly, the very good way of packing."
The vast majority of orders go to consumers, one or two books at a time. Alongside that, something quite different comes along now and then, such as a company wanting a large number of books as corporate gifts.
"Special orders are also handled properly, such as large quantities for companies."
We have handled the shipping of all REiSREPORT webshop orders since 2020, and by now rather more than that.
"In 2020 we switched from another fulfilment provider to E-fulfilment Shop. A decision we are still very happy with, and one that means we can wholeheartedly recommend them."
